It’s no wonder you will find the marketplace flooded with “wonder products”. They range from creams, pills and health drinks that promise to spot reduce fat; and gadgets and machines that tone the arms, thighs or the abs.
However, there is one reality check you have to make. You cannot spot reduce body fat. Sorry…if it were that easy everyone would simply target their problem areas. Unfortunately, many companies make tons of money because of the naive public. If it looks good and it seems to work then why not promote a product.
The market continually misinforms the public of the benefits of their so-called revolutionary products. In reality there really are no revolutionary results to look forward to. The buying public willingly hands over their money with the hopes that a single product would rid their bodies of fat.
Instead, keep your cash and bank cards in your pockets. Here are three things you need to know to reduce fat:
1. A Healthy Diet Is Important
Your diet is an extremely important element which controls the amount of fat your body stores. Unfortunately people are guilty of sabotaging their diets. They continually eat foods high in calories.
These include fast food, fried foods, white bread, rice, sugary cereals, cakes, biscuits, high fructose syrup, sodas and sweet juices. The surplus that your body does not need gets stored as fat in the problem areas.
Solution: Substitute these foods for healthier prepared versions that have been baked, steamed or grilled. You should consume more brown rice, 100% whole wheat bread, eggs, fish, vegetables, nuts and fruits. Avoid the fried, very sweet, fatty and junk foods. For example, eat a medium baked potato instead of fries.
2. Spot Reduction Is a Myth
Don’t believe the hype! People are still saying you can target which areas to lose body fat. They say you only need to ingest or apply them on your problem areas. Anything worth having does not come easy.
Ever heard that if you want to improve the look of your stomach, you simply have to concentrate on abdominal exercises or use the gadgets that will do the exercise for you. Does it sound familiar? Sorry to burst your bubble but…you cannot achieve a flat stomach by simply doing abdominal exercises.
Doing 500 crunches a day will make you exhausted but it will not give you a flat stomach. You cannot make your body burn fat in a specific area of your body. Even though it might seem that exercising a specific body part will help you to lose weight in that area.
On the other hand the area will become stronger but body fat will still be present. You should instead focus on doing full body workouts to lower body fat levels.
Solution: Do exercises that work multiple muscle groups like squats, lunges, push-ups, pull-ups and cardio exercises like sprinting, skipping, jumping jacks or burpees to burn overall body fat. These exercises force your body to use more energy. Consequently, the fat melts off your body.
3. Health and Fitness Require the Right Mindset
Have you ever told yourself it can’t be done or it’s only for some people? Many people look at their bodies in the mirror and lose the weight loss battle before they even start. It seems like an impossible up-hill climb.
They start exercise programs and quit. They eat healthy for a week and then give up the next week. The consistency they seek is very elusive. Exercise at times seems like an obligation. A chore they never look forward to doing.
Solution: Think of exercise as an opportunity to get in better health. Set one simple goal with action steps, accomplish it and repeat the process. For example, you could walk four times a week 15 minutes each time for two weeks. After two weeks your goal should be four times a week 20 minutes each time for another two weeks.
These are just three reasons things which show why you can’t spot reduce body fat. Instead you should make a lifelong commitment to ensure you stay healthy. Even if you achieved a desired shape, it would still need to be maintained.
People tend to believe the hype because it’s easy and it seems too good to be true. However, if you will depend on spot reduction claims, it will really bring you nowhere. You can only hope, but you cannot expect.
So if you aim for the healthy body; get an exercise program for yourself and make some changes in your diet. Give your self a holistic development. Improve not only the body, but your outlook in life as well.
Get healthy the proper way. The saying still holds true. No pain, no gain. So do not be a victim of the misleading information and empty promises offered. Simply know the proper options. Take the matter into your own hands and enjoy the benefits of a healthy body.
Miracle diets, pills and potions are mere shortcuts that will lead you to a dead end. If a healthy body is what you desire then you have to work for it. You have to earn it.
We are living in a fast paced world with technology advancing at a rapid pace. However, there is no get in shape now pill or gadget. Thus, you will still have to do what is naturally required by the body such as a healthy diet and regular exercise to reduce overall body fat.
